Anet, sort your server problems out
First of all, i dont know if this goes here or somewhere else, mods move it to wherever it needs to be.
OT- Sort your RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing servers out. Im fed up of playing then being randomly dc'd or 007'd out, i dont play a lot atmo, when i come on i like to expect the ability to actually play the game not battling against some pointless disconnection preventing me from bothering to login after the 4th time. It's not on my side, the internet works fine, pages load etc, i just keep getting disconnected for no apparent reason, i know im not the only one as it happens to guildies/alliance members and in pug groups.
Yes this point has allready been brought up and they've done piss all about it (not surprisingly) but it'll keep coming up until it is sorted. Thanks.

"It's not on my side, the internet works fine, pages load etc"...
You don't have a clue how the internet works.
One example: Bob lives in Magicland 1, and Joe in Magicland 2. The server that holds "Addictionquest" is in Magicland 3.
Bob's connection goes through Magicland 1, Magicalponyland, Flyingspaghettimonsterrealm, and finally to Magicland 3. He connects fine and plays many many hours of "Addictionquest".
Joe however goes through Magicland 2, ZOMGBLACKHOLEOFDOOM, and finally to Magicland 3. However today there is a problem with the server in ZOMGBLACKHOLEOFDOOM. He can't play today.
That's a simplified version of a possible scenario.
It's not "Addictionquest"'s problem that you live in Magicland 2.
(I am not saying that this is the case. They did state they had a problem with a server in the EU. I however connect perfectly well for hours on end without any disconnects.)
I just dislike when people say "It's not me!" when it could very well be your connection.

Yea but most of the time lately its been more than just one person having trouble, i had multiple problems in HA a couple of days ago, and 3 or more team members erroring at exactly the same time. Dont tell me that not a server problem.

There's so many factors outside of Anet's servers that can contribute to DC's, even across multiple people if they're on the same internet "routes" or whatever that no-one can prove its their servers.
Plus Anet's hardly ever gonna admit it if it was, July mAT anyone?

Ya, its ANET's stuff. It can't be my $10 router, my ISP, my super duper on board NIC, or the fact that I play in peek internet time.
It is without a doubt ANET's crappy equipment and I want it fixed NOWWWWWW.
@OP you should really learn how the internet works before claiming it is someone else’s fault.

Maybe you need to get a clue on how it works.
1. It is their servers.
2. Explain to me how a group of 8 people all in different parts of the world get dc and lag at the same time,must be cuz we all went thru magicland portal ....hmmmm wow think not.
The only thing we had in common was the fact that we were connected to anet servers.

lol do a tracert and see where it goes wrong. If it goes wrong at the end, go ahead and blame a-net, if it goes wrong before that... well, blame yourself.

There is no way to prove your claim that it is their fault. Only people working in Anet are able to say if there was something with their server. There might be plenty of reasons why a given connection was down. It might be even that 200 people got disconnected at the same time and still the reasons might have been different for every single one of them.
We have a lot of servers in my company and there are always people having connection problems for various reasons even though servers are up 24/7. It is really rare than one of the main servers is down. And if it happens then MOST of the users are not able to connect and all the ones connected are Dc. I guess in the case of Anet it would mean several k of users at least like it was not long ago when their EU server was down.
To my knowledge when server like Anet uses is down then all users on this server are disconnected not just some of them... If it was just some then I would bet on the reasons outside Anet sever room

the internet is not what you think it is. When you connect to GW's servers you DO NOT connect directly to them, you go through multiple other routers. If there is a problem with one of them routers, this isnt anets fault.

1. Swearing won't fix the problem.
2. I don't know why you whining about lag, I'm fine and so are my friends.
3. Get a better internet connection, close all other programs that don't require internet.
4. I am downloading stuff, online on Msn and playing GW at the same time and no lag
5. Before blaming Anet make sure YOU're the one not sucking here.

Sometimes it's anet. Sometimes it's not. Arguing over who's at fault isn't gonna fix anything. There were times where I could have sworn it HAD to be Anet's problem...but it ended up being mine.
As was mentioned, even the times where it is Anet's fault...they will never (well, usually not) admit it.
I guess the bottom line is that a thread like this isn't gonna get very far.

Gathering some info from other threads, I wanna see if I understood well... thus it would explain why people from different areas are having problem, while some others in the same area don't have any problem.
Different people in the same area can be connected - or routed - through different spots in order to get to the same server... or different servers.
Random Guy #1, #2, #3 and #4 are neighbors. They connect to servers via different IP routes.
Guy #1 connects to server A.
IP1 => IP2 => IP3 => IP4 => IP5 => IP10.
Guy #2 connects to server A.
IP1 => IP3 => IP4 => IP7 => IP8 => IP10.
Guy #3 connects to server B
IP1 => IP3 => IP4 => IP8 => IP9 => IP11.
Guy #4 connects to server A
IP1 => IP5 => IP6 => IP7 => IP8 => IP10
There's a problem with IP4. Guys #1, #2 and #3 are going to get lag, random d/c's, et, because they're all routed to IP4. Guy #4, despite he's on the same server as #1 and #2, isn't gonna get any problem because he's not being routed via IP4.

It happens... it's a wonderful things called the internet which NO ONE controls... (except the Americans will they think they do)....
So.... do as I do... if it happens live with it.. hope to reconnect or just carry on...
Moaning that it's Anet won't help..... lol.....

Let's just take down the entire internet and see if that fixes the problem, shall we?
Most of it is ISP related. Network issues are not new to ANY game. It may suck from time to time, but at least you can still play, right? It's better than not being able to play at all ever, isn't it?

I know part of my 'server issue' is simply that living in Australia we are forced to ether play on European or American servers.
There are certain periods were I get annoying disconnects, and lag issues (most notably in AB) but seriously the servers are already far better than i've played in many other games.

When my entire guild, including myself, sees me logged on as 'Character A' during times of heavy lag and constant disconnects, while I'm actually logged on as 'Character B', and haven't played 'Character A' in over a week, something is definitely wrong at ANet.
(Happened last night.)

I've experienced that as well, once, maybe twice... it's been a while though.
I had played GW shortly on my necro and logged off to do IRL stuff. When I came back, I logged on my monk. We had some new people in the guild and this new guy calls me by my real name right away. Being on my monk, Brodda Buddha, I found it pretty awkward and asked him if I knew him from somewhere else. He said something like "no, but I see that name in your character's name... you're Xander The Ranger right?" Figures out the name I saw myself under the guild roster was Xander The Ranger and not Brodda Buddha. Everyone thought I was on my ranger as well. Found it pretty funny.
Also seen people being offline when they aren't (happens a lot after they D/C, myself included!), being online when they are offline... must be nearly 2 years now, but one of my friends had logged off before going on a short holiday trip. He showed online for 3 days, but all PMs delivered to him told us he was offline.
They're bugs, I mean it happens every now and then, IMO nothing to worry about. Just do like me and use it for amusement factors on forums and whatnot . (Or reassure people that it's not a MAJOR bug).

This was the second time it happened to me, and I've seen it happen to a guildie as well once. Things like this only ever seem to happen while there are connectivity issues. I think this is a symptom of connectivity issues between ANet's own machines.
On a different but related note:
ANet's servers are likely not single machines connected to the internet using a single NIC and hosting ten thousands of games. They're probably server-clusters that share the load among a numer of machines. If a single machine in a cluster becomes unreliable due to whatever (faulty memory, NIC, cables, etc.) only the people in games/outposts hosted on that machine will experience lag/disconnects/etc.
Sure, there's a lot that can happen on the way from our gaming rigs to ANet's front door, but there're also plenty of things that could go wrong inside ANet's datacenters that would impact only a relatively small number of people at once.
The assumption that "if the problem was at ANet's side, everyone would be lagging," doesn't hold water.

When 8 out of your 12 man team for The Deep get's DC'ed and your spread all over the country and some from europe you know there's a 95% chance it's not your fault. People have been complaining about DC's for awhile now, which leads me to believe it's more server trouble like those three weeks of mass disconnections that made the game unplayable.
And is it just me or have all these issues been happening since the ursan change? Fix one skill and the whole game goes to hell. -knows that's not the case, but it does look strange-

i had the same sort of problems this guy was having for a few months and i though just like this guy it had to be a problem with guild wars not my internet connection so after spending about a week and half with plaync support.
they had me run a program called PingPlotter it kind of like tracert in the cmd window expect you can let it run for how ever long you like well anyway i let it run for about 30 minutes one time and then 60 another time and then 30 again another turns out i was losing packets about 7 or 8 hops away.
that is where my problem was coming form turned out that i also was losing a couple of packets here there form my isp so i called and talked to them about and explained to them where the packet loss was coming form and it since one of them was on there end.
they would look into it with in a day or two of making that call i was able to start playing guild just fine again i still get the some lag everyone in a while but nothing like it was no disconnects.
This program is not supported by NCsoft. You can find the program and information on how to use it at http://www.pingplotter.com/download.html
Please download and install the Standard version of PingPlotter. Run the program and in the upper left corner you will see an Address to Trace: section. Type in the server IP you find in game by hovering your mouse over the colored dot in the lower right hand portion of the screen and click the Trace button.
